Renault wants late release for 2021 rules
"The teams ahead can develop three cars at once, but we cannot"
Renault and other teams are still in the dark about F1’s future beyond 2020.
At Renault’s engine headquarters in Viry, team bosses Cyril Abiteboul and Alain Prost were on hand this week to lay the first brick of a new building.
But team president Jerome Stoll says there is uncertainty about F1 in 2021.
"On the engine side, we will keep regulations similar to now," he told Ouest France newspaper.
"But that’s the only thing we know at the moment."
Stoll said Renault is pressing ahead anyway, because he thinks the bigger teams like Mercedes and Ferrari have an advantage.
"The teams ahead can develop three cars at once, but we cannot. That’s why we are arguing paradoxically for releasing the regulations as late as possible," he said.
