Buemi hoping for a Brazilian birthday

I left Korea on Monday morning and it was a long trip home, because I went first to Amsterdam where I connected with a flight to Birmingham in England. From there I drove down to Milton Keynes for a session on the simulator on Tuesday. So I was glad to finally get home on Tuesday night. Since then, I’ve had a few personal sponsor engagements to attend and apart from that, it’s been the usual job of training, although after such a long trip, you have to take it easy at first as your body has a lot to deal with having changed time zones so often.

Really, I have not been up to much, because the race schedule has been so busy these last few weeks that it’s pretty much all you have time for. I have been doing my “homework,” looking at all the data from last year’s race, talking a lot on the phone to my engineers to try and be as well prepared as possible for the race in Brazil.

This Sunday is a special day for me as its my twenty second birthday, but coming the day before I leave for Sao Paolo, I’m not planning anything too special, just spending the time with my family. If I could choose what would be the best birthday present, it would be to score some points in Brazil! Last year at Interlagos, I qualified sixth and finished seventh, which was a good result and if we could do the same, it would be the top. The Interlagos track is pretty special: it’s a short lap, its quick, so all the lap times will be very close. This means that particularly in qualifying on Saturday, we will need to be very precise, not making any mistakes, because a tenth of a second one way or the other could make a difference of several rows on the grid. In fact, the short lap means there will be a lot of traffic out on track in qualifying and we will need to be well organised to make the most of it.

I leave for Brazil on Monday evening and it’s been good to have these few days to start to deal with the jet lag, because having come from Korea in the east, we now head west, before heading back east for the final round in Abu Dhabi. There is nothing much you can do about jet lag, but I normally try and get on the time of where I am going the day before I leave home, or at least on the flight out. But it’s not a major problem and it is something you get used to in this job.
