Tiago Monteiro returns to Zolder with determination
The team has worked on the new engine
This weekend, Belgium’s Zolder Circuit plays host to the second race weekend of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Last year, Tiago Monteiro had one of the finest performances of the field, securing 3rd and 4th place race finishes. Twelve months down the road, the SUNRED SEAT driver has come back to the scene of his 2010 exploits, determined to score some essential points towards the overall championship.
SUNRED SEAT has not yet taken delivery of its 1.6 liter turbo engine, and so Tiago knows that the task ahead of him will not be easy, but he plans to use all of his driving science and experience to minimize his handicaps. "A month has passed between the first races and this weekend, and the team has taken advantage of this time to work on the new engine, but also to prepare all the little details that can make the difference on our current car," Tiago explained, "Last year, we managed to do great things. This year we don’t know where we will be situated with regard to the competition, but we are eternal optimists!"
In Zolder, Tiago will have some valuable moral support. In addition to racing on the home turf of one of his main sponsors, Monroe, he knows that he will be racing in front of an audience of connoisseurs. "I know this weekend will be charged with emotion. With Monroe, we will have the support of 600 fans, and that is an additional motivation. We are going to prepare everything down to the slightest detail and try to do the best we can," Tiago concluded.
Weather forecasts are calling for summer-like sunshine and high temperatures of around 24°C.
