Gabriele Tarquini will not retain his World Touring Car Championship crown. The reigning champion was cut out the title fight when he crashed from the lead during the second race at Okayama last Sunday.

“It was my mistake. In those conditions the SEAT cars did not have the pace to compete with BMW and Chevrolet and I had to take some risks to try and stay in contention until Macau. Honestly I still don’t know what happened, because the turn where I went off is uphill and relatively slow,” Tarquini commented.

How do you split the odds to clinch the title between Yvan Muller and Andy Priaulx? “Yvan has 90% of the odds as even in the case he doesn’t score, Priaulx has to collect 37 points, which is not easy. However, in Macau anything can happen. Should the finale was on another track I would have given Yvan 99% of the odds, but Macau is unpredictable.”

Tarquini is now heading to Argentina to take part Sunday in the 200 km of Buenos Aires.
