Nagy rues Ficza’s absence in Argentina
He crossed his fingers
Dániel Nagy’s second appearance in the FIA World Touring Car Championship was a bitter-sweet experience after his team-mate Ferenc Ficza was prevented from taking part at WTCC Race of Argentina.
Ficza was unable to fly to South America following an operation to remove his appendix, leaving Nagy as Zengő Motorsport’s sole representative at Termas de Río Hondo where he finished P15 and P17 in the two races in a Honda Civic WTCC.
“It was a very bad thing [for Ferenc] because he’s not just my team-mate but my very good friend,” said Nagy of his fellow Hungarian. “I was crossing my fingers for him but unfortunately he could not be [in Argentina] but he said he’s okay and time by time he’s getting better and better.”
Nagy revealed the wider layout of Circuito Termas de Río Hondo made his ongoing WTCC transition easier than the tight confines of the Vila Real street circuit in Portugal, where he made his long-awaited WTCC debut in late June.
“In Vila Real it was a very difficult track for my first time in the car,” the 18-year-old explained. “I couldn’t be on the limit because I wanted to save the car for Argentina. But [Termas] was wide with a lot of run-off areas. It’s a very long learning process we have so I try to learn the car continuously and [Termas] was a good place to do that.”
