Meeke to bounce back from Argentina woe

Kris Meeke has vowed to hit back from his last-gasp retirement on Rally Argentina earlier today.

The defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion was heading for third place when his Peugeot 207 Super 2000 suffered a steering bolt failure at the first corner of the penultimate stage of the event.

Unable to make effective repairs, Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle limped back to service in Carlos Paz, rather than attempt the final superspecial stage in the town due to possible safety risks.

Meeke, who is due to return to IRC action on the next round, Rally Islas Canarias from 29 April-1 May, said: "It is really disappointing after all the niggling little problems we’ve had this weekend, but safety must come first. We’ll take stock and move on."
