Hänninen closes on overall lead

Juho Hänninen has closed to within 11.2 seconds of Škoda Motorsport team-mate Jan Kopecký by going faster than the Czech on stage 11, the 25.26-kilometre Telde run.

However, it was former Rally Islas Canarias leader Kris Meeke who set the fastest time in his Peugeot 207, 4.6 seconds faster than Hänninen could manage.

Meeke’s stage victory moves him ahead of Alberto Hevia into fifth overall, 24.5 seconds behind fourth-placed Bruno Magalhães.

Franz Wittmann went off and retired. Daniel Oliveira also retired, with mechanical problems.

There are now four stages of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier remaining.
