Michael Schumacher ’understands some things’ - report
Gasly rejects criticism over Schumacher ski jacket post
A new report has offered rare insight into the physical condition of Michael Schumacher, following a visit by a journalist to the F1 legend’s property in Majorca.
Daily Mail journalist Jonathan McEvoy says he travelled to Majorca to investigate persistent speculation surrounding Schumacher’s health, reporting that the seven-time world champion remains wheelchair-bound and unable to communicate verbally.
Quoting an unnamed source, McEvoy wrote: "You can’t be sure whether he understands everything because he cannot tell anyone. The feeling is that he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them."
The report says Schumacher continues to receive round-the-clock care from his wife Corinna and a medical team, and has not been seen in public since his skiing accident in December 2013.
McEvoy adds that access to Schumacher remains extremely limited, with former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt described as one of the few people outside the family permitted to visit him, while former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn is also said to have seen Schumacher since the accident.
The report also dismisses rumours that Schumacher appeared at his daughter Gina-Maria’s wedding in 2024, describing such claims as false.
Gasly rejects criticism over Schumacher ski jacket post
Pierre Gasly has dismissed criticism over a recent social media post showing him skiing in a vintage Michael Schumacher-era jacket, insisting there was no negative intent.
The Frenchman faced backlash over the winter after sharing an Instagram photo of himself skiing while wearing a classic red Michael Schumacher ’Marlboro’ Ferrari jacket, with some fans describing the image as insensitive given Schumacher’s 2013 skiing accident, while others raised concerns about the cigarette branding.
Speaking at the presentation of Alpine’s 2026 Formula 1 car, Gasly addressed the controversy when asked by f1-insider.com.
"I’m a big fan of Michael," Gasly said. "I’ve always respected him. I’ve always been open about the fact that he was one of my idols growing up."
Gasly added that the jacket was an original piece once worn by Schumacher and explained the personal context behind the photo.
"It was one of his jackets," he said. "I love skiing. I’ve been doing it since I was a child. It really helps me clear my head."
While acknowledging the reaction, Gasly rejected suggestions of disrespect.
"Unfortunately, that’s part of the life we lead," he said. "I’ve always shown that I’m a very respectful person. Michael was and is one of my role models. At no point did I intend to express anything negative."
