“All digital” Virgin launch a no-go

The new Virgin Racing team has made a big deal about the new VR-01 challenger being the product of a pure Computational Fluids Dynamics approach and that the launch of the car would be an “all-digital” affair.

"A new team for a new era of Formula One, the Virgin Racing team concept looks to exploit and capitalise upon F1’s new economic dawn," read a statement from the team this morning. "The team was launched at an event in London last December, but with the focus now firmly on developing the ground-breaking VR-01 for the start of the 2010 season, it was fitting that the roll-out of the new car should also be ‘all-digital’."

This is where Virgin Racing had a small problem. The event, to be streamed on VirginRacing.com, was scheduled to take place at 10.00 GMT today, but a quick look at the official website revealed absolute nothing with no sign of the official all-digital launch.

And there is a lesson for us all. Technology is amazing and it has transformed our lives in ways that we never thought possible. However, while clever, technology can let you down as Virgin Racing have now found out.

The team will be hoping for better with its Silverstone shakedown of the CFD-designed VR-01.
