Yvan Muller backs 2017 calendar changes
He’s glad to see Macao back
Yvan Muller has backed the return of Macau and Monza to the FIA World Touring Car Championship calendar.
Both venues feature on the 2017 schedule with Monza hosting the second event of the season on 30 April and Macau staging the penultimate weekend on 19 November.
While Muller won’t be in action next year after calling time on his illustrious driving career, the four-time World Touring Car champion was full of enthusiasm for the revamped list of dates confirmed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council last week.
“It’s very important to be back at Macau because it’s a big event and it’s good for the WTCC,” said Muller. “And Monza is the temple of motor racing in Italy so it’s good to go on this kind of circuit as well.”
Muller was speaking ahead of last Friday’s FIA Prize Giving ceremony in Vienna where he picked up his trophy for finishing runner-up in this season’s WTCC to his Citroën team-mate José María López.
