Winning was easy, says WTCC fan favourite Coronel
"This is a really challenging circuit but..."
Tom Coronel said winning for the second time in this year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship was easy.
The Dutchman outgunned several WTCC Trophy rivals, the category for independent racers, plus a number of factory drivers to win from the front in the Opening Race at WTCC Race of Portugal this afternoon.
Despite race-long pressure from former team-mate Tom Chilton, Coronel didn’t falter in his ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet.
“This is a really challenging circuit but I knew I had good chance here, so I always said Morocco, Vila Real and Japan should be good to me, and until now everything came out so I’m really happy. My race was a little bit under pressure from Chilton, I was a little bit faster in the high speed stuff and finally I could take the points where he could out-brake me with a little distance. So to be honest it was for me a reasonably easy drive.”
