Will Honda push it in Nordschleife WTCC MAC3?
"Of course the length of the final straight is really particular"
Honda’s trio could literally push each other in their bid to win the WTCC MAC3 team time trial at the Nürburgring Nordschleife later this month.
Although Honda WTCC chief Alessandro Mariani wouldn’t reveal the team’s strategy for the Tour de France-inspired event, saving time on the two-kilometre Döttinger Höhe could be key to WTCC MAC3 success in Germany.
“Of course the length of the final straight is really particular so we can study a lot of strategies, maybe working with the simulator to understand what is the best,” said Mariani. “I think MAC3 will be really exciting because of that and of course I won’t tell what we will do!”
Mariani’s Citroën counterpart, Yves Matton, added: “I think I will leave Honda to test this at the Nürburgring and I’ll be quite interested to see this on the television. But for the moment we still have some time to finalise what will be our strategy for this event.”
LADA’s Viktor Shapovalov said: “To be honest we keep our strategy like it is. Germany is a very long track and it’s difficult to plan something.”
