Wilks satisfied with start to IRC bid

Guy Wilks will head to South America next month for the second and third rounds of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge satisfied with the start he has made to his campaign with Škoda UK Motorsport.

Briton Wilks, 29, finished in sixth place on Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo last month. He described it as the perfect start to his IRC programme at the wheel of a Škoda Fabia S2000.

Although Wilks admitted he had struggled for confidence at times during the event due to the changing stage conditions and the difficulties they created when making tyre choices, he said he had achieved his aim of a points finish and was satisfied at how he performed behind the wheel of his Fabia.

"It was a very difficult but fantastic rally and a point-scoring finish was a fantastic result," said Wilks. "We stuck to our plan of taking no risks and getting mileage in the car, and it paid dividends. We’re looking forward now to going to Brazil and Argentina for the next two gravel events."
