WTCC to use full road course at Sonoma

Sonoma’s full road course has been homologated by the FIA for the World Touring Car Championship, following an inspection carried out by Formula One race director Charlie Whiting.

The WTCC layout includes the Carousel chicane (turn 7a), the motorcycling chicane (turn 9a) and the final hairpin (turn 11), for a total lap distance of 4.025 metres.

This will result in two races of 13 laps each.

The track used by WTCC is different from those used by NASCAR and IndyCar. While NASCAR ran in June on a much shorter layout (3.2 km) cutting from turn 4 to turn 7, IndyCar races this weekend on the 3.7 km course, without turns 7a and 11.
