WTCC privateer Bennani aims high

Winning the WTCC Trophy won’t be the limit of Mehdi Bennani’s ambitions when the 2016 FIA World Touring Car Championship fires up at Circuit Paul Ricard in France next month.

Bennani is one of the favourites to win the WTCC’s championship within a championship for independent racers after finishing runner-up in 2015.

And while taking the class title would be a career high for the Moroccan, he’s set his sights on a high overall placing as well.

“We want to be fighting for the general podium because at the end this is what people see watching on TV and what our partners want,” said Bennani. “Last year we have seen with Sébastien Loeb Racing and the Citroën we had strong results and this year it’s going to be the same because the private drivers are very strong in this championship.”

Bennani will pilot a Sébastien Loeb Racing Citroën C-Elysée WTCC for a second season running. He placed in last year’s overall standings with second in the opening race in Qatar his best result.
