WTCC learning continues for Polestar pair
"I was hit so hard from behind by Nicky"
Polestar Cyan Racing left Morocco with a solitary FIA World Touring Car Championship point as a first-lap clashing in the Opening Race wrecked Thed Björk’s bid for a podium, while grip issues held back him and team-mate Fredrik Ekblom in the rain-hit Main Race.
Björk came off worse from a lap-one tussle with LADA’s Nicky Catsburg with Ekblom taking P10 in his identical Volvo S60 Polestar TC1.
“I was hit so hard from behind by Nicky Catsburg and dropped to last position,” said Björk. “I was able to regain five places and Nicky apologised to me straight after the race, so no hard feelings there. Then in the Main Race I just had no grip, all part of the learning process as we have had virtually no wet weather testing.
Ekblom said: “Just as Thed said, the second race was really difficult as we have no real data to utilise for the wet yet. But the car felt better and better in the dry as the weekend progressed and I am happy to score points in the first race.”
