Tyre performance pleases Cavigioli
“The new Yokohama tyres were really exceptional”
Former IRC 2WD Cup champion Marco Cavigioli believes that his new Yokohama tyres could hand him an advantage as he chases the IRC Production Cup for the first time this year.
Cavigioli, who clinched the IRC 2WD Cup title in 2008, kicked off his latest campaign by contesting last month’s Barum Czech Rally Zlín with his Ralliart Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX run by Island Motorsport.
A broken brake pipe put him out of contention, but the Italian was encouraged by the start to his programme – and he singled out his Japanese tyres for particular praise.
“It took me a little while to get used to driving this type of car again, but I’m pleased to have reached the finish in the Czech Republic and I’m sure we will be more competitive at the next round,” he said. “The new Yokohama tyres were really exceptional: even with the very high temperatures around Zlín their performance was not compromised at all. They really impressed me.”
Cavigioli will compete next on this week’s Canon Mecsek Rally in Hungary, co-driven by Monica Fortunato.
