Tiago Monteiro with SEAT Tuenti Racing Team
"I can’t wait to get back to competition in the strictest sense"
The ties binding Tiago Monteiro and SEAT Tuenti Racing Team have grown stronger with the announcement that their partnership will be extended for the 2012 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The duo Monteiro/SEAT have recorded success after success without a break, since the first year of their collaboration, in 2007. In 2012, Tiago Monteiro will continue to uphold the Spanish team’s colors in one of the rare FIA championships, one of the most competitive in auto racing.
Together, Tiago Monteiro and SEAT SunRed have conquered 15 podiums. In 2012, with the SEAT Leon 1.6 liter Turbo engine, which promises to be more high-performance than last season, thanks to an ambitious development program begun in the winter, Tiago Monteiro hopes to provide his sponsors, his family, his friends, and his supporters with good reasons to be glad. "I am very pleased to be renewing my contract with SEAT Tuenti Racing Team. Its an extension that is pretty obvious from a competitive and commercial standpoint. The brand is increasingly committed to the championship and the best proof of that is that the improvements made to the car this year are significant: a new engine and several major technical developments," Tiago Monteiro declared.
The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) begins March 10 and 11 at the Autodromo Di Monza, in Italy, but Tiago Monteiro hopes to take part in a test session at Imola before that. "I can’t wait to get back to competition in the strictest sense. Next week, the Imola tests will be very important for preparing for the start of the season. These tests will be brief but no stone will be left unturned. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to my participation in the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and who continue to believe in my potential and above all in my professionalism."
Tiago Monteiro has accumulated 15 podiums and 4 wins in the WTCC, two of which were won on his home soil, at Estoril in 2008 and Algarve in 2010.
