Tiago Monteiro one step off the podium in Austria
"It was very difficult to beat the Chevrolets"
Tiago Monteiro had the best result of the Castrol Honda team when he crossed the finish line of the second race on the Salzburgring in fourth place. An hour earlier, the Portuguese driver made a great recovery from 22nd on the grid, a position he was relegated to after the team suffered an inadvertent breach of the technical regulations.
JAS Motorsport Honda and Tiago wanted to ensure that his Japanese sedan was intact for the second race of the fifth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC and despite his caution at the start and during the twelve laps, Tiago moved up nine places to secure a 13th place finish. "We did not want to take any chances, but our pace was still very good. Starting from the back of the pack, there was no reason to risk losing everything for the second race. Nevertheless, 13th place was quite satisfactory," said Monteiro.
The scenario was very different for race two. Tiago had a great start that earned him a position before the first corner. The Portuguese driver then held firmly to third place for some time, but had to abandon his hopes of a podium in the final laps, on a fast track does not suits the Honda Civic. "Our race was good but it was very difficult to beat the Chevrolets. 4th place is still a very important result for me and for the team. We continued to develop the car and we must continue this process before the next race," concluded Tiago Monteiro.
The next round of the FIA WTCC will take place in Moscow on the 8th and 9th of June.
