Tiago Monteiro meets portuguese media

WTCC race winner Tiago Monteiro met the Portuguese media during a press conference organized by Eurosport at Lisbon’s Fontana Park hotel.

Monteiro, who classified fifth in last year’s championship and will be once again at the wheel of a SEAT León car run by SUNRED Engineering, answered a few questions.

Do you think this is the year when you will become World Champion?

“When you compete at the highest level this is always the goal. In the WTCC, experience counts. All the champions so far had many years of experience in this kind of cars. This will be my fifth season and I feel that now I have that experience. However, we do not know the real value of the SEAT TDi compared to the new cars with the 1.6L turbo engine. The first races will be difficult. My aim is to score as many points as possible and do not lose ground. I am confident and I want to keep on improving.”

When will the new car start racing? And what about the event in Porto?

“We will not have the new engine before Zolder. We have great expectations concerning its potential, but we have to wait to be sure! About Porto, I am truly at home. It’s always a great pleasure to feel the support of the public in a street circuit like Boavista. It’s going to be a success and I have no doubt that the public will, once again, give me a big support.”
