Tiago Monteiro in V8 Supercars!

Tiago Monteiro will take part in the prestigious Australian V8 Supercars Championship’s Gold Coast 600 from the 22nd to the 24th of October, 2010. Currently racing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), Tiago will exchange the wheel of his SEAT León for that of a Holden Commodore VE with Centaur Racing, that is normally raced by Tony d’ Alberto.

This will be yet another new challenge for the talented driver from Oporto, who will now add this adventure to those from Formula 1, ChampCar, the 24 hours of Le Mans and the WTCC. Tiago already knows the street circuit in Queensland after racing there in 2003 when he was part of the ChampCar Series, which was the equivalent to F1 in the USA. “Above all, it is an honour to be invited to take part in this event as well as some of the best drivers in the world,” declared Tiago Monteiro, “I am always curious to discover different championships and I always loved racing in Australia when I was in ChampCar and F1. I want to thank the organizers of the Australian V8 Supercars Championship as well as the owner of the Centaur team, Al D’Alberto for offering me this unique opportunity, and also to thank SEAT, who is always by my side and encourages me to take part in such an exceptional race outside of the WTCC championship. Surfers Paradise has always been a great event and I am positive that it will be a great festival again this year!”

The Gold Coast 600 is a test of endurance and Tiago will share the driving duties with Tony d’ Alberto. The event consists of two 300 kilometre long races where 17 international drivers will join forces with 17 great names from different top world series, as well as the local drivers from the Australian championship and it will be a good occasion for Tiago to fly the colours of the Portuguese flag to the other side of the world.
