Tiago Monteiro aiming for the podium in the US
"I am convinced that this weekend could be auspicious"
The World Touring Car Championship, FIA WTCC, will visit the Sonoma Circuit in California for the second consecutive year this coming weekend, the U.S. circuit playing host to the ninth race weekend of the 2013 championship season. Both Tiago Monteiro and Honda have pinned their hopes on a podium finish for this overseas event, as it holds a place close to their hearts.
Between the recent progress by the Honda Civic and the work done by the Japanese manufacturer, Tiago Monteiro cannot contain his ambitions. "After a month off, it’s always good to race again with recharged batteries. Last year, I enjoyed the weekend in Sonoma, not only because I absolutely love this track, but also because the spirit of competition is an American feature that I really appreciate and one I am in tune with," said the driver of the Honda Civic #18.
"In terms of competition, I think the track configuration should suit the Honda Civic and I think we should be able to fight for top places," says Monteiro. Sonoma could see Honda win their first world title since their epic manufacturers crown in Formula 1 and Tiago is proud to be taking part in this great adventure. "The most important thing is to work on the car’s reliability and performance so we can make it to the finish and score some big points. I am convinced that this weekend could be auspicious for Honda."
