The IRC program for Wittmann finalised

Following the Rallye Monte Carlo the Interwetten duo will compete in seven further runs overall in Europe. The team stems from Germany – Romo Motorsporttechnik under Roland Leschhorn - will employ a Peugeot 207 S2000.

When Franz Wittmann, together with his main sponsor Interwetten, had introduced this year’s IRC project in January in Vienna just prior to the Rallye Monte Carlo the only open topic remained the final choice of runs.

The Interwetten Racing Team had received an invitation by Eurosport to compete in the two IRC-runs in Brazil and Argentina whereas the TV station would have borne the seaway transport costs.

“That obviously was very tempting for us, especially since one possibly could have scored important IRC-points in South America. But the Peugeot S2000 of Romo Motorsporttechnik would have been en route too long and to fly in the car plus spare parts would definitely have exceeded our financial resources” said Franz.

Following a meeting with all concerned parties one has now, after the Rallye Monte Carlo, decided to compete in the following seven events:

04-06 June - Rally Sardinia
24-26 June - Ypres Rallye
15-17 July - Sata Rally Azores
27-29 August - Barum Rally
09-11 September - Rally Asturia
23-25 September - Rally San Remo
04-06 November - Cyprus Rally

“Sardinia and Cyprus are two new rallies within the IRC series for all teams. And I know Ypres, the Azores, the Barum Rally, Asturia and San Remo from last year, which should be an advantage to us. Thereby tarmac and gravel rallies are almost balanced out. I hope to be on the podium with the Peugeot 207 S2000 at several rallies. I know that I am aiming very high thereby but this is the only way to advance internationally. Besides, I also owe that to my sponsor Interwetten” concluded Wittmann.
