Slovakia Ring, FP2: Catsburg gets ahead of the WTCC Volvos
The Citroën drivers continue to have a low-key weekend
LADA FIA World Touring Car Championship driver Nicky Catsburg topped Free Practice 2 for the WTCC Race of Slovakia after outpacing the Polestar Volvo Racing cars.
After heading the first session, Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk led the way again for much of FP2 before Catsburg set a 2m05.581s lap that would not be beaten. Björk finished up ahead of Ekblom thanks to a mid-session improvement.
Norbert Michelisz took fourth for Honda ahead of the returning James Thompson, who was a fine fifth overall and quickest in the WTCC Trophy in his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. LADA’s Hugo Valente and Honda’s Tiago Monteiro followed.
The Citroën drivers continue to have a low-key weekend, with Tom Chilton the best of them in eighth. Yvan Muller was 10th behind Honda driver Rob Huff while championship leader José María López was only 12th.
John Filippi was 14th after his beaching his Cruze in the gravel late on when poised to improve his time. Qualifying is next up at 14h00.
