Shanghai, FP2: Chevrolet trio takes command

Chevrolet cars continue to set the pace in Shanghai. After bamboo-engineering’s Alex Mac Dowall and Team Aviva-Cofco’s Colin Turkington had topped Friday’s test and this morning’s Practice 1 respectively, the factory trio took command in Practice 2.

Alain Menu posted the session’s fastest lap of 1:55.874 with five minutes left on the clock, demoting Yvan Muller (1:55.913) to second. Rob Huff ranked in third with the time of 1:56.349.

The BMW cars of Tom Coronel (1:56.766) and Norbert Michelisz (1:57.031) placed themselves in fourth and fifth positions, followed by the SEAT cars of Gabriele Tarquini (1:57.059) and Tom Boardman (1:57.250).

Colin Turkington (1:57.303), Alberto Cerqui (1:57.319) and Mehdi Bennani (1:57.362) completed the top ten.

Tiago Monteiro’s Honda (1:57.631) was classified 15th, with the Ford Focus cars of James Nash and Tom Chilton in 21st and 22nd.

A few drivers made spins but they all managed to rejoin: Charles Ng, Michelisz, Fredy Barth and Ng Kin Veng at Turn 2, Alex Liu at Turn 4b, Barth at T9, Aleksei Dudukalo at Turn 13, Ng Kin Veng again and MacDowall at Turn 16.
