Sabbatical year for Wiechers-Sport
The objective is to return in 2015
The Wiechers-Sport team decided to take a sabbatical year in 2014 and focusing on rejoining WTCC in 2015.
The German outfit has taken part in the championship with BMW cars since the inaugural season in 2005, claiming two Independents’ Trophy with Marc Hennerici in 2005 and Stefano D’Aste in 2007 and three outright race victories with D’Aste in 2012 (Austria and Japan) and José María López in 2013 (Argentina).
Team manager Dominik Greiner explained: “We have worked hard until the last possible day in order to secure a full season programme, but we did not succeed to put together a solid financial basis. It is really tough for us not to be in the championship after nine successful years. Our target is to be back in 2015 with a competitive TC1 car, as we believe that the championship has a great potential to grow further up under the new technical regulations.”
