SS12: Sarrazin moves into third place

Stéphane Sarrazin has moved into third place on Rallye Monte-Carlo by going fastest on the penultimate stage of the centenary edition of the legendary event. The Frenchman was 3.2s faster than Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Juho Hänninen to climb from fifth to third.

It marked a reversal of fortune for the Peugeot France driver whose mechanics replaced a faulty gearbox in 15 minutes during the service halt in Monaco after the original unit got stuck in fourth gear early in stage 11.

François Delecour falls to fourth with Guy Wilks dropping to fifth after a decision to run on soft compound tyres backfired and he dropped time.

With one stage remaining, Bryan Bouffier’s overall lead stands at 44.9s over Škoda driver Freddy Loix, while Giandomenico Basso now occupies the final point-scoring position in 10th.
