Ravaglia: Coronel was in control
"It was a really good performance by Tom"
Former World Touring Car champion turned WTCC team boss Roberto Ravaglia has spoken of his delight after Tom Coronel won the FIA WTCC AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco Opening Race on Sunday in his ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet RML Cruze.
Ravaglia admitted watching Coronel over the closing laps had made him “stressed” but added that he was confident the Dutchman, a long-term ROAL driver, would come out on top, despite intense pressure from the chasing José María López in a factory Citroën.
“It was a really good performance by Tom and we are all very happy,” said Ravaglia. “It was quite stressful [watching] but Tom was in control. We knew the brakes could be an issue so we made some changes on Saturday and this helped.
“We do not have the biggest budget so just to be on the podium would be a big achievement. But to win is really special. We have all worked so hard for this moment.”
