Polestar pair score as all-new Volvo S60 TC1 makes WTCC debut
"We have had a good first race"
Polestar Cyan Racing drivers Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblolm both finished in the points when the 2016 FIA World Touring Car Championship got underway at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Björk claimed seventh in the Opening Race with Ekblom taking his identical Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 to P10 in the Main Race, which covered an extra lap.
Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar, said: “We can conclude that our set-up with a Swedish car, Swedish drivers and an all-Swedish crew is working. Our mission for the first race was to gather data. We have done more than that with Thed giving us a great show in the first race and both drivers scoring world championship points.
Ekblom added: “We have had a good first race and I am delighted to leave Paul Ricard with points. The car is fast and I am longing for us to sink our teeth in all the data we have gathered in order to sharpen our knives even further ahead of the rest of the season.”
Ekblom would have finished the Opening Race but for contact damaging his car’s suspension, while an electrical issue put Björk out of the Main Race.
