Polestar Volvo WTCC chance a dream for Ekblom
"This is huge"
Driving for the factory Polestar Cyan Racing team in this year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship will be a dream for Fredrik Ekblom.
The 45-year-old is joining Thed Björk in racing a Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 during the upcoming WTCC season, which fires into life at Circuit Paul Ricard in France from 1-3 April.
“This is huge,” said the vastly experienced Swede. “And it is not only because it’s the WTCC, the entire set-up with racing in a team of people I’ve know for so long is incredibly motivating.
“It is incredibly unique and this is exactly the set-up you dream of as a racing driver when you start racing. I have had a really long career and opportunities like these are super rare, especially as I am racing with my team-mate Thed Björk whom I’ve known since I was 15 years old and working with team owner Christian Dahl who I raced against in go-karts when I was 12 years old.”
Ekblom, who has raced single-seaters in the past, tackled six rounds of the WTCC in 2002. He’s a three-time Swedish touring car champion.
