Oriola replaces Borković at Campos Racing
"There is no need to risk an even greater injury"
Pepe Oriola will race at Macau in one of Campos Racing’s Chevrolet RML Cruze cars, replacing Dušan Borković.
The Serbian driver has been forced to miss the WTCC finale because of the hand injury he suffered in a crash during the first race at Beijing Goldenport.
“I didn’t have enough time to deal with it and it got worst in Japan. After Suzuka it swelled up and it hurts a lot. There is no need to risk an even greater injury, therefore after consulting a doctor and my team I decided not to compete in Macau. It was a hard decision, especially after taking second place in Japan, but I know it’s for the best,” Borković explained.
This will give Oriola the opportunity to race in the TC1 Chevrolet alongside regular driver Hugo Valente. The young Spaniard, who makes his one off comeback to WTCC, proved to be very quick in Macau, where he finished second in last year’s Race 2 after starting 12th.
“I am very motivated! Although I am not in the same conditions as the others who have raced for the whole season, my goal is to achieve a good result. I wish to thank Campos Racing for offering me this opportunity that I hope to exploit in the best way,” said Oriola.
Campos Racing will also run a trio of SEAT León cars in the TC2T class for John Filippi and Hong Kong drivers William Lok and Henry Kwong who have already raced for the Spanish outfit at Shanghai and Suzuka respectively.
