Oliveira set for Sunday restart

Daniel Oliveira is set to return to the action when Philips Rally Argentina concludes today.

Oliveira was forced to retire from the fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia prior to Saturday’s final test when a broken driveshaft caused an oil leak in his Brazil World Rally Team Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

“This definitely this wasn’t our best day,” said Oliveira, who was hampered on Saturday morning with a powersteering fault. “We had different problems and couldn’t improve in the standings.

“It was a shame we had to abandon [on Saturday]. I knew these stages well and I wanted to use that to my advantage. The team is now working to repair all the damages on the car to re-join the rally under the Rally 2 system on Sunday.”

Oliveira’s troubled second day was in contrast to his endeavours on Friday when he made up 11 places to finish the day in 14th position following his exit on Thursday night’s superspecial.

“I have learned you have to run sensible in order to complete these kinds of stages,” said Oliveira. “It was really tough and being fully concentrated helped me a lot.”
