New Marrakech WTCC track on schedule
"This is the fruit of hosting the WTCC for seven years"
The heavily revamped Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech is well on course to be completed ahead of the FIA World Touring Car Championship’s visit to Morocco in May.
Previously a temporary facility, the track has now been transformed into a semi-permanent layout with 1.8 kilometres of the 3.0-kilometre lap for racing use only.
The development will enable local motorsport events to take place all year long.
“This is the fruit of hosting the WTCC for seven years” said Aly Horma, CEO of Marrakech Grand Prix. “The plan is to keep leveraging a major event like WTCC to promote the city and the sports, but also develop the site into Morocco’s only permanent circuit.”
Designed by Hermann Tilke’s architecture agency, the new Marrakech track delivers “more corners, more braking points and more show for the spectators”, according to the event organisers.
Marrakech hosts the WTCC from 6-8 May.
