2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke is determined to bow out of the series with a podium finish despite suffering a puncture and a brake failure on the RACMSA Rally of Scotland yesterday. Meeke was leading until the succession of dramas dropped him to fourth place overnight.

“Things were looking up briefly [on Saturday morning] but since then it’s been down, down, down and very disappointing,” said Meeke. “It should be easy enough to get back third but the way my luck is going nothing is likely to be simple. I’d like to get a podium on my final drive for Peugeot.”

Meeke begins the day 16 seconds behind fellow Peugeot driver Thierry Neuville.

"This is not the way it was supposed to end. We’ll push to get past Thierry; third on the event would be enough for us to be third in the championship. It’s not much, but it’s something."
