Macau, FP2 - Barth escapes a heavy crash
The unfortunate driver was conscious and unscathed
Chevrolet drivers were on top again in a session that came to a premature end when Fredy Barth crashed heavily his SUNRED car at the fast Paiol bend.
After the impact the Swiss driver was unconscious inside his car on fire. Marshals and firemen were intervened quickly, managing to extricate Barth and extinguish the flames.
The unfortunate driver was conscious and unscathed, although intoxicated for breathing the fire’s smoke. He was taken to the hospital for medical checks.
In the first dry session of the weekend, Rob Huff posted the fastest lap of 2:32.268, followed by Alain Menu (2:32.300) and Yvan Muller (2:32.397).
Once again Tiago Monteiro was the best of the rest, fourth with the time of 2:34.430, ahead of Darryl O’Young (2:34.835), the best of the Yokohama Trophy.
Javier Villa also hit the wall at Faraway, but he managed to limp back to the pits with his twisted car.
