Loeb enters a restricted club

When nine-time World Rally champion Sèbastien Loeb won the second WTCC race at Marrakech last week, he became the third member of a very restricted club.

Although his accomplishment was outstanding, he has not been the first driver to win World Championship rounds in both Rally and Racing. Two other champions has accomplished the same exploit, though it was many years ago.

Italian Sandro Munari, a winner of seven WRC rounds between 1974 and 1977 for Lancia, won the 1972 Targa Florio that was counting towards the World Sportscars Championship at the wheel of a Ferrari 312P he shared with Arturo Merzario.

Nearly ten years later, Walter Röhrl from Germany won two rounds of the World Sportscars Championship, the 1980 6 Hours of Brands Hatch in a Lancia Beta Montecarlo and the 1981 6 Hours of Silverstone in a Porsche 935. Röhrl was crowned twice World Rally champion: in 1980 for Fiat and 1982 for Opel
