Launch of the Macau GP event
For the last round of 2014 season
The 61st Macau Grand Prix that includes the final two rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship was launched yesterday during a crowded press conference at Macau’s Fisherman’s Wharf.
The Suncity Group was announced as the title sponsor for the event’s main races: the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix, the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix and the FIA WTCC season finale.
Engineer João Manuel Costa Antunes, Coordinator of the Macau GP Committee stated: “The WCC, the most prestigious ‘tin top’ series in the world returns to Macau in November for a tenth time with what will no doubt be another dramatic finale to the championship.”
As a consequence of the recent changes to the WTCC event format, the usual Thursday test session will be brought forward from early afternoon to early morning, while the first Free Practice session will be held on Thursday afternoon (November 13) instead of Friday morning.
Friday (November 14) WTCC competitors will hit the track for the second Free Practice (morning) and the Qualifying session (afternoon). Saturday will be a day off as usual for them – whilst the track will host the F3 qualifying race and the Motorcycle Grand Prix.
WTCC action will resume on Sunday (November 16) with two back-to-back ten-lap races.
