Hungaroring - FP2: Dahlgren is closer to the top
Fuel feeding problems stopped Michel Nykjær on his first lap
The tarmac was considerably hotter compared to the first practice session, which prevented most of the competitors from improving their lap times.
Robert Dahlgren was especially impressive, driving his Volvo C30 car to clock a first lap of 1:57.583 that remained the second fastest of the session, only one tenth behind the 1:57.447 set by Yvan Muller a few seconds earlier.
Alain Menu and Rob Huff rounded up the top-four at 1:57.759 and 1:58.106 respectively, with Gabriele Tarquini’s SEAT TDi in fifth position (1:58.152).
Javier Villa continued to impress, posting the sixth fastest lap of 1:58.574 and emerging as the best of the Yokohoma Trophy, immediately ahead of Norbert Michelisz (1:58.692).
Fredy Barth was the fastest driver in the SUNRED turbo cars, posting a promising 11th best lap of 1:59.236, while fuel feeding problems stopped Michel Nykjær on his first lap out of the pits. Despite the team’s efforts, the Dane could not rejoin.
The session was disrupted once by the red flag, with 12 minutes left on the clock, after Urs Sonderegger’s BMW nose-dived into the tyre barrier at the end of the pit straight. This also spoiled what looked to be a probable fastest lap for Alain Menu.
