Citroën decisions expected this month
Team boss is starting to make phone calls
Citroën expects to decide its 2016 World Rally Championship driver line-up and its plans for 2017 by the end of this month.
Current season drivers Kris Meeke and Mads Østberg completed their final contracted rally in Wales last weekend and neither has a commitment from the French squad for 2016.
After the finish in Wales, team principal Yves Matton told wrc.com that things would move quickly, starting with a decision from Citroën to drop either its World Rally Championship or World Touring Car Championship activities in 2017.
"In the two following weeks the decisions will be taken, with the first about our plans for 2017 I think," he said. "Linked to that I will then take the decision about our 2016 drivers. I will start tonight [Sunday] to speak with the drivers and try to work on it."
"I’m really happy that I have had the possibility to wait so long because it was very interesting what we saw during this rally. I think I have all the criteria to make a choice, start to speak to them and see if we can find an agreement."
Matton admitted that Meeke and Østberg are just two of the names under consideration. "I am speaking not only with these two but other drivers too," he said.
