Chilton crashes out of warm-up session
RML is confident it will be able to repair it in time
Tom Chilton crashed his RML Chevrolet Cruze out of the morning warm-up session ahead of this afternoon’s two WTCC races at the Slovakia Ring.
Chilton was on his third lap when he left the track at Turn 2 and hit the tyre barrier, bringing out yellow flags for Sector 1. After checking the car, the team is confident it will be able to repair it in time for the races.
Later in the session, the SEAT León of René Münnich went off at the same place, but the German driver managed to avoid the tyre barrier and rejoined the track.
It was the Honda Civic of Norbert Michelisz that set the fastest time in the session (2:11.935), with Pepe Oriola second quickest (2:12.536) and Rob Huff third (2:12.567) in a pair of SEAT León cars.
Following Darryl O’Young’s accident in Qualifying yesterday, the ROAL Motorsport team had repaired the BMW overnight and the Hong Kong driver was able to complete six laps, albeit well off the pace.
Race 1 is scheduled to start at 14.50 CET, with Race 2 starting at 15.50.
