18-year old Tom Cave is running fifth for Proton in his home Intercontinental Rally Challenge event, and is expecting Sunday’s stages to provide his car with a better opportunity to show its potential.

Following the retirement of his team-mates, Cave is driving the last Proton Satria Neo eligible for points in the RACMSA Rally of Scotland, although Alister McRae and Keith Cronin will be restarting the event this morning after repairs.

“I think Sunday’s stages are going to be much more flowing for us,” says Cave. “They’re faster and they should suit the car better.

“Loch Ard is drier than last year but more rough, which I wasn’t expecting. Being among the first on the road could be a good thing.

“We had a good test before the event, they’ve done some work on the engine and the car seems to be a lot better on gravel.

“It’s very important that our car gets round because we haven’t had much luck recently. I’m going to try to not make any mistakes.”
