Williams confident after a successful qualifying
Both Maldonado and Senna progressed through to the top ten shootout
Williams are hunting for a decent points haulage tomorrow, after the Grove-based outfit enjoyed their most competitive qualifying performance of the season so far. Before the Hungarian Grand Prix, Pastor Maldonado was the only Williams driver to have progressed to the top ten shootout, however earlier today Bruno Senna joined his team-mate for the first time.
With the Williams duo of Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna therefore set to start tomorrow’s Grand Prix 8th and 9th respectively, the South American pairing will be striving for further success once the lights go out tomorrow afternoon. With Pastor Maldonado already a race winner 2012, Bruno Senna is rumored to be racing to retain his seat within the team, with reserve driver Valtteri Bottas looming ominously over the Brazilian’s seat.
“Both drivers did very well today in qualifying in what is an extremely tight and competitive grid.” Explained Williams Chief Operations Engineer, Mark Gillan. “We are very pleased to get both cars into the final session of qualifying for the first time this season and look forward to the race tomorrow. The forecast indicates that the race is likely to be wet and the rain could be heavy, especially towards the later stages of the race.”
Bruno Senna currently only has 18 points in the Drivers’ Championship, in comparison to team-mate Pastor Maldonado’s 29. However, Bruno Senna has been highly consistent so far this season, finishing in the points on five separate occasions, whereas team-mate Maldonado has only finished in the points twice.
With both drivers clearly aiming to finish in the points tomorrow, the Williams outfit could well enjoy a highly competitive Hungarian Grand Prix. With rain once again posing a threat to the proceedings, a podium isn’t out of the question for either of the two Williams drivers.
