Felipe Massa: I am very disappointed

Felipe Massa expressed dissatisfaction over how qualifying turned out for him, as the Ferrari driver was eliminated after Q2 as the tricky weather intervened throughout the qualifying hour. The 31-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a relatively successful British Grand Prix last time out, finishing 4th just behind his team-mate and the Red Bull duo.

After enduring a tough start to the 2012 season, not to mention a disastrous 2011 season, Felipe Massa is in desperate need of a competitive result this weekend. Not only is his seat at Ferrari constantly coming under threat from the likes of Sergio Perez and Paul di Resta, but Ferrari are in desperate need of two drivers competitively racing at the top to try and boost their Constructors’ points tally.

Ferrari currently have 152 points, and sit 2nd in the Constructors’ Championship. Only a meagre 23 of those points have been scored by Felipe Massa. Whereas Massa has only finished in the points four times so far this season, team-mate Fernando Alonso has finished within the points at every race and has won two of them.

“I am very disappointed with the way qualifying went.” Explained a frustrated Felipe Massa, “I did not manage to do a time at the start of Q2 because I went wide at Turn 8 and so was unable to put together a good lap in the only window available to do so. At that point on the track, the tarmac is different and it is very easy to lock the wheels and thus lose a lot of time. It’s a real shame, because the car was and is competitive, both in the wet and in the dry, but tomorrow I will start too far back to fight for the top places.”

Starting within the midfield pack is always dangerous, with the prospect of being included in any incidents ahead always likely. However, Felipe Massa will be looking utilize his Ferrari power tomorrow as he tries he best to rise towards the sharp end of the field.
