According to multiple sources, the Formula 1 Strategy Group has rejected the idea of the final three races of the season having double points awarded.

Members of the strategy group had do agree unanimously on the proposal laid forth by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, implying the idea was met with little enthusiasm by Formula 1 team bosses.

Six Formula 1 teams are part of the F1 Strategy Group, as well as F1’s Bernie Ecclestone and FIA President Jean Todt. Todt and Ecclestone each hold six votes each whilst the teams hold one vote each.

The idea of double points being awarded has not been very popular amongst F1 fans around the world, with their voices being heard on the most part through social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. It is believed that F1 team bosses took these thoughts into account, and argued it would be a mistake to extend the double points scheme to three races.

The Strategy Group also decided to make no changes to the engine homologation rules after Renault were understood to have requested amendments to the rule.

Manufacturers are required to submit a letter of reference before the close of play today. After this letter is submitted, changes will only be allowed on the basis of cost-saving, reliability or safety.

Renault, who has suffered severely with reliability issues with their new V6 turbo engines across all teams they power, have denied that they requested a two month extension to the homologation deadline with a Renault spokesperson stating today that “the basic requirements of the homologation deadline will be delivered today as mandated by the FIA.”
