Wittmann tipped for Sanremo points

Franz Wittmann’s team manager Ronny Leschhorn has tipped his driver to fight for a points finish when he resumes his Intercontinental Rally Challenge bid in Sanremo from 23-25 September.

Wittmann, from Austria, landed his first finish of the season in the IRC on Barum Czech Rally Zlín last month following a troubled campaign in his Interwetten Racing Peugeot 207 Super 2000, which has been hampered by a succession of non-finishes.

“We were satisfied with the preparation and therefore were able to hand over a perfect car to Franz [for the rally],” said Leschhorn. “It is, of course, difficult to go right to the limit after three retirements. But we are making good progress and I’m sure that Franz will fight for points again at the next rally.”

Wittmann, 26, finished the Tarmac rally in 11th overall and could have secured a points’ finish had he not lost two minutes with a damaged tyre on the 14th stage of the event.
