Wilks convinced of IRC title credentials

Guy Wilks has conceded that he was beaten by the better driver on Rally Argentina last weekend but believes he can still take the fight to event winner Juho Hänninen for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title.

Wilks finished a distant second to Hänninen on the gravel event and managed one fastest stage time compared to the 11 recorded by the factory Škoda Motorsport pilot, who heads the drivers’ standings by five points as a result of his success in Argentina.

However, second place for Wilks on Rally Internacional de Curitiba earlier this month meant he left South America with the same number of points as his rival, which has given him renewed belief that he can overhaul Hänninen at the top of the table before too long.

“Okay, Juho won this rally quite comfortably and I would liked to have pushed him harder but it wasn’t to be,” said the Škoda UK Motorsport-run Wilks. “But at the same time we take away the same amount of points from South America as Juho so we’re standing in a good position in the championship.”
