Wiegand finishes twice on circuit racing debut
"I’m not doing the race specifically for Targa Florio"
Intercontinental Rally Challenge frontrunner Sepp Wiegand finished 21st and 17th when he made his circuit racing debut in Austria last weekend.
The ŠKODA Auto Deutschland driver was competing in the latest rounds of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at the Red Bull Ring, a former Austrian Grand Prix venue.
Wiegand, a 21-year-old from Germany, said before the event that he hoped the experience would improve his performances on asphalt, the surface used for the next two rounds of the IRC in Sicily and Belgium.
“I’m not doing the race specifically for Targa Florio but for the overall training and maybe [the stages in Sicily] can help me more to learn how to carry more speed in the exit of the corner because it’s a faster rally,” he said.
