Dave Weston Jr has employed former Geko Ypres Rally competitor Mark Higgins to help him prepare for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event, which gets underway on Friday (25 June).

Weston Jr, 19, is contesting four rounds of the IRC this season in a Group N Subaru Impreza, starting with the demanding asphalt rally.

“It’s going to be a big learning curve and it’s one of those events that you simply want to get to the end of,” said the Scottish driver. “Mark has lots of experience so I’ll be looking to make the most of that.”

Higgins, who now assists the Team UK driver training scheme, has contested the Ypres Rally on six occasions. He said: “Ypres is a very specialised event and there are lots of things that can catch you out.”

Weston Jr, who will be co-driven by Ieuan Thomas, has prepared for his Ypres debut by testing extensively at a venue in Bala, North Wales. He will also contest the IRC rounds in Czech Republic, Scotland and Cyprus this season
