Vizin starts IRC season with bonus rally

László Vizin will start his fourth season of Intercontinental Rally Challenge action when he contests SATA Rallye Açores from 23-25 February in what has been described as a special car for the experienced Hungarian.

Vizin will tackle four IRC events in 2012 in a Group N Subaru Impreza. However, for the trip to the Atlantic archipelago, he will switch to an R2-specification ŠKODA Fabia. It will be the smallest capacity car Vizin has driven since he won Group B of the Hungarian championship in a Lada VFTS in the 1980s.

“We are planning four IRC races later this year,” said Vizin. “The Azores organiser invited us and since we are a great fan of this race in a beautiful island we decided to add another rally to our programme.”

He continued: “Unfortunately our Subaru is not available for this race, but we received an offer for a ŠKODA Fabia R2. This car is the smallest I have raced since my Lada. I believe it is more difficult to drive a car with less power, but I don’t feel myself too old to take another challenge.”

Vizin has been competing on rallies for 30 years and has been a regular in the IRC in recent seasons driving a variety of cars including a Honda Civic and a Subaru Impreza.
