Toyota’s rallying comeback is go!
Yaris R1A is put through its paces on Rallye Deutschland
Fans attending ADAC Rallye Deutschland are being given a taste of things to come with Isolde Holderied driving the new Toyota Yaris R1A as one of the course-opening cars on the FIA World Rally Championship round.
Toyota Motorsport GmbH is in the process of returning to international rallying with a WRC programme a possibility in the future. For now, the company is putting its might behind the entry-level Yaris, which is due to be homologated for competition use by the end of the year.
“It is a great thrill for TMG to return to rallying, a discipline in which we enjoyed a great deal of success in the past,” said Yoshiaki Kinoshita, the president of TMG. “The TMG Yaris R1A is a completely different project compared to our WRC past; it is an affordable but exciting car which makes rallying’s major events accessible to a whole range of participants. We have already received numerous inquiries about this car so we know there is a huge appetite in the rally world for a new Toyota; I hope this is the start of a new rally dynasty at TMG.”
